Belton House is fully self catering however The Wanlockhead Inn in the village is only 5 minutes walk away and The Hopetoun Arms Hotel is in the neighbouring village of Leadhills which also has a village shop, only 1.5 miles away.
Belton House is an ideal base for hill walking and outdoor activities and is also on the Southern Uplands Way.
The Museum of Lead Mining where you can go into an actual mine and pan for gold is only 5 minutes away - there's also a small tearoom and the attraction is open from April to September. Drumlanrig Castle and Country park is only 30 minutes drive away and has marked walks, mountain bike tracks and an adventure playground on the grounds. There is horse riding, golfing and fishing nearby as well.
The small town of Sanquhar which is 8 miles away has various small supermarkets, Bank of Scotland and an RBS cash machine. There are also Chinese and Indian takeaways which will deliver to the house, and a swimming pool and fitness suite. Sanquhar is also home to the world's oldest Post Office and The Crawick Multiverse.
The house is only 1 hours drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh which makes it a great base for the Fringe Festival and the Tattoo.
